Bill Taplin moves into the Village…

Bill Taplin

One of Margaret River’s community members, Bill Taplin recently bought into the Margaret River Lifestyle Village. You see the wonderful thing about Bill, every time you mention his name, a new story is revealed about him and his life in this special town.

Bill has lived in Margaret River for over 30 years. Bill moved to the south west in 1988. He was a ranger for the region and under his employment, he covered most of our pristine coastline from Yallingup to the southern end of Boranup.

Last December (2017), Bill was introduced to the Lifestyle Village quite by accident. His son’s partner Kath, contacted Adan from the village and sent him Bill’s number. Adan got in touch straight away and before he knew it Bill was out on the site, looking at the newly developed homes and hearing the village story.

“As soon as I walked in the door of the Conotos home, I liked it. I gave my $500 deposit there and then,” he said.

“You see, Contos has been a special place for me. I knew straight away I wanted the Contos home, because during my time as a National Parks Ranger, I watched the Contos campsite grow from a 3 bbq area, 30 years ago to what it is today. That’s why I couldn’t go past the Contos house.” Mr. Taplin explained.

Bill was impressed with how the homes were finished off, “immaculately,” and fitted with all the mod cons including dishwasher, heating and  benchtops.

Bill moves in mid-July. He is looking forward to being part of an active social life, being surrounded by like-minded people, close to family and friends and in his beloved town, near the golf course. Whilst he knows a lot of people in town, he doesn’t know everyone moving in, however he knows of them he said.

Having been on his own now for over 18 years, and enjoying a glass of red in the evening, he is looking forward to having a drink with friends at the Clubhouse and “tottering back home,” as he puts it, without having to drive.

“I’m 73 years old, soon to be 74, and I’ve always looked after my home and my own garden, but now I’m a bit busted up and can’t do it. I’m feeling guilty that I can’t keep on top of it all. Moving into the village, I’ll be able to get my cleaner in still and get help with my much smaller garden and brand new house.”

“We are looking forward to welcoming Bill to the village. He will be a valuable member of the community and I’m sure he’ll keep everyone entertained as he regales yet another interesting story, from his colourful life,” says Adan Nicolson MRLV Community Manager. Adan adds, “the houses are selling faster than our previous prediction. We are looking forward to opening the Clubhouse so we can’t start to see the full potential of the village life.”

Margaret River Lifestyle Village Update

20 houses have sold out of the 37 homes as part of Stage 1 of the development.

The Clubhouse is on track to be completed September 2018.
